Day 7 - Thursday, July 16

R&R: Research & Rubrics

Here's today's agenda:
  • Conference about SharePoint Capabilities
  • User Support
  • Review 14 Point Assessment and Surveillance Criteria (Amy only)
  • Worked on teambuilding session (Amy only)
  • Surveillance Audit
  • Staff Meeting

Observations

  • The Surveillance Audit checklist included the 14 Point Assessment, Program Notebook and Program SharePoint. The team provides a very lengthy description of the criterion required for each checklist item. Each program team is responsible for adhering to these guidelines and updating/posting documents in a timely manner. Most audits are conducted without notice.

EVM & Earned Schedule Research

  • EVM measures scheduled performance in dollar amounts; however, there is an issue regarding schedule performance. When the project is completed, the SV or schedule variance indicator equals zero indicating that the project had a perfect schedule (regardless if the schedule ran behind)
  • ES or Earned Schedule attempts to fix this issue by first measuring the schedule against time intervals rather than cost amount.
  • Earned Schedule Website
  • The benefits of earned schedule include connects EVM to the project schedule, converts time into money, improves decision-making, adds trend analysis, improves confidence in forecasting delivery dates, etc...

Classroom Applications

  • After reviewing the 14 Point Assessment, I thought it may be interesting to create an Assessment Cover Sheet for each students' assessment portfolio. This year, we will be collecting unit assessment materials including tests, quizzes and possible homework assessments --- and placing in a student assessment portfolio. The cover sheet can be an electronic file that includes student assessment scores and participation comments. The cover sheet would include quarter grades, benchmark grades, final exam grade and course final grade. In addition, comments and areas of improvement will be identified on this cover sheet organized by units.

I am just about set for the teambuilding exercise for next week. I decided to create an agenda that includes the importance of teambuilding, participation in a snowball activity and creation of a team mission statement. My hope is to complete this exercise in approximately 30 - 35 mins. When the session is complete, I will post a link to my presentation resource on my blog. :) I'm excited about how the presentation is coming together and very enthusiastic about leading my teammates through several fun activities.
